Château de Chambord

Claudia is due to leave in a couple of weeks so we take any opportunity we have to show her some sights she may be interested in.

Today we got the idea of making a day-trip to Chambord for her (and Lisa, who'll also be leaving in a couple of days).  It's just over an hour away and is an easy trip.

The day was hot but not excessive — just perfect, actually — and the two of them enjoyed the visit a lot.  Claudia brought little Amos along and he was a delight to have near us!

If you're not familiar with the castle, read about it here and put it in your "must-see" travel plans next time you come to visit us!

Which Fowl Are You?

Dear Friends,

Do you feel like a swan in a chicken coop?

That is, do you feel culturally and intellectually superior to the believers around you, to the setting in which you find yourself, or even worse, to your spouse?

If so, I feel sorry for you.

The most miserable and wretched situation, anywhere, is to feel superior to everyone else around us.  With this kind of attitude, we can feel nothing else but disgust, impatience, and frustration.  But what or who could possible change everything around?

Paul, writing to the Romans, gives us a clue: "Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.  Live in harmony with one another.  Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.  Do not be conceited." (Romans 12:15-16)

The more we do this, the more we discover the hidden riches of the Spirit of Christ in the believers around us.  And, remarkable, looking at them with new eyes (when our hearts change) many plump fowls around us — miraculously — turn into graceful swans!

And we, into real ducks for not having recognized thir inner worth.

We all have life as we make it.

Peter Hoover

P.S. The truly humble have a truly easy and uncomplicated life.

A heartfelt thanks to our brother Peter for this timely wisdom!

We've decided to go see Karel and Peter and all the other brothers and sisters we know from Auspitz to attend the second annual conference there.

You would be so welcome too if you can make it!  Want to join us?  Get in touch ...

Another swarm

Just to keep you up to date here; everyone is complaining about diminishing bee populations but, although we always seem to lose a hive or two during winter, we are amazed at the little creatures resiliance and ability to adapt and multiply!

This is the swarming season and Rebecca's been called out a couple of times lately.  Two weeks ago the swarm was difficult to get at since it had lodged in a chimney.  This latest one was in a wall and seemed easier.

For the first visit a small hive (what we call a ruchette) was placed as close as possible to see if they would be attracted to it.  On the next visit we found that another, different swarm had taken up residence there!  We got the ruchette down with the swarm safely inside and are set up another hive—we're still after the original swarm (which worries the old lady who lives there).

Here's the team struggling with getting the ruchette down.  The "trap" hive is visible on the roof of the shed.  (No need to mention who's who since that should be obvious to any all of you!)
